Actually, this is not a new project. I bought the website domain nearly two years ago. But the last year was denser than I thought because of the combination of senior year of mechanical engineering and engineering trainee program.
An event mustered up my courage three months ago. I met a friend, he had also graduated the same university and department as me, in the engineering trainee completion event of the company. When I stalked him :D, I found a site with his name. He has already created a website like this. He has written blogs about engineering but he has stopped doing it. This reminded me this domain and the purpose of the purchase.
At times, especially at the beginning of the courses that build on previous ones, I would notice that the information in the mechanical engineering curriculum was not retained. It may originate from me, instructor, system or etc. but it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is I do not learn the engineering permanently.
I have started to think about solution to this and the starting to solve anything is finding the reasons for the problem. As for me, the main reason of the inefficient learning is exam-focused studying. I won’t be humble about that I have graduated a really tough school and it pushed us to study like this.
However, this cannot be an excuse for my qualification and this leads me to my first purpose in creating this website: improving my engineering. When I am curious about anything, I ask it to Google (nowadays ChatGPT) and read about the content like everyone else does. To intensify and make permanent that information, especially about engineering, I will research those topics deeply and summarize them into the posts from today onwards. Of course, it cannot solve everything but it will be fresh start in my opinion.
Secondly, I have studied the engineering without interest but why? I love everything about engineering, technology and etc. but I cannot preserve my interest when I was studying and it was killing my interest slowly. I think that the main reason is the state of being mandated.
When I am curious about something, I can spend hours or days researching, learning and working on that. However, school does not work like that. Because of its intensity, I had to work according to a strict plan. I could not research about theory and practical applications; I could not run away from topics that I had no interest and I must only focus on exam problems. Fortunately, I have been free from those shackles for three months and I now have regular times that I can spend to refresh and develop my interest. To ensure stability of this process, I aim to write one blog post at least every week and this post is where it begins.
The other reason is English. It is a complex problem. After preparation year, I did not really need to use English except reading, like every other engineering student, and also, I have not integrated it to my life successfully. Therefore; the other skills have lain fallow since that year. I also aim to keep my English alive and develop it by writing the posts in English, as I do right now.
The final reason is creating an archive. It is not just the research and technical papers, it shows me things such as what I am curious about, when I start to work about that topic, why I was interested in it, etc., in future. In long term, I hope to include my friends. Maybe they also have similar problems or maybe it can cure other problems of them. My dream is seeing a start of a large corpus after one year from today. Like they said: “the palest ink is stronger than the sharpest memory.”
